A fantastic St. Kew 8th FunDay Saturday August 7th 2010

The St Kew Playing Field Trust 8th Annual FunDay held on Saturday 7th August has proved once again to be great success

Despite problems with the weather causing several advertised attractions not to appear the Community Spirit of St Kew Parish shone through to make August 7th our lucky day.

The proceedings went ahead in overcast weather, later on in sunshine.

Trust Chairman Mr Bob Knight introduced our guest, County Councillor Mr Colin Brewer who commended the whole community and Playing Field Trust on their efforts in continuing to provide such a splendid and always improving facility for the use of all. Several hundreds of visitors enjoyed the many sideshows, entertainments, car boot sale and facilities on offer. The 4th Family Fun Dog Show proved to be a great crowd pleaser and with 20 classes and hundreds of entries from all around the district, county and further afield, was the great attraction of the day. Judge Jerri Omlo of the Canine Learning Centre Stenalees, assisted by her stewards Marian, Jack and Mike maintained a well run and very entertaining attraction, many prizes and rosettes where handed out and every dog had its day and appropriate rewards. Dog of the day, winning Best in Show was ‘Charlie’ a chocolate brown Cockapoo owned by Tracey Gilman of Bramley, Rotherham, Yorkshire who was holidaying near Padstow.

Chairman Bob Knight paid tribute to all committee members and their families: - Phil and Carol Scott & family, Jaqui and Arthur White, and Cherrel Raybould. With Jeanette Rowe, Trevor Wellington, Megan, Mark Pratt and Steve and Margaret Stawski on the barbeque. Kirsty and Andy Jones where praised for field and site maintenance. All of their assistants and all of the trusts friends received special mention for their fund raising efforts and contributions, particularly ‘Single Moo’ and St Kew Community Hall. The Chairman also thanked the many local business and private sponsors for their magnificent contributions thanking St Kew Products, St Kew Services and The Red Lion of St Kew Highway especially, as well as all marshals and stewards who allowed the days events to proceed without any problems. Bob thanked the St Kew WI and their volunteer helpers for their contribution in providing refreshments and cream teas during the day, the members of local Rock Group ‘The DEFS’ for the loan of the PA Sound system, Kate Richardson of G &PJ Nute Veterinary Wadebridge for the many Dog Show prizes and Mr Bill Dawe for his fund raising efforts on the Trusts behalf.

Treasurer David Edwards said that the success of the day with proceeds in excess of £2500 meant that the Playing Field Trust could once again look to future plans to further improve facilities on the playing field with optimism. He stated that the continued support of Wadebridge Camels Rugby Club junior teams inspired local young people, and our new Tennis Court and car park area indicated the determination of all to the continuing future of the St Kew Parish Playing Field.

Trust secretary, John Raybould added his thanks to all concerned in delivering a magnificent day, he went on to say that he was now actively involved with several organisations to obtain funding for further improvements to the Playing Field facilities to reflect the wishes of the St Kew Residents

The Continuing success of the St Kew Parish Playing Field is of vital importance to our community and thanks once again to the support of many hundreds of people this year we can look forward to a bright future.
