A fantastic St. Kew 9th FunDay

The St Kew Playing Field Trust 9th Annual FunDay held on Saturday 6th August

has proved once again to be great success

In absolutely ideal weather the Community Spirit of St Kew Parish shone through to makeAugust 6th once again our lucky day raising a new record amount of funding in excess of £2600

Trust Chairman Mr Bob Knight opened the show and commended the whole community and Playing Field Trust on their efforts in continuing to provide such a splendid and always improving facility for the use of all. Several hundreds of visitors enjoyed the many sideshows, entertainments, car boot sale and facilities on offer, especially popular were new attractions, Archery Target Practise and Laser Tag Shootout. The 5th Family Fun Dog Show proved to be a great crowd pleaser and with 20 classes and hundreds of entries from all around the district, county and further afield, was the great attraction of the day. Judge Jerri Omlo of the Canine Learning Centre Stenalees, assisted by her stewards Jack and Mike maintained a well run and very entertaining attraction, many prizes and rosettes where handed out and every dog had its day and appropriate rewards. Dog of the day, winning Best in Show was ‘Boysie’ a blue Staffordshire Bull Terrier owned by Keith Searle of Plymouth who came for the event

Chairman Bob Knight paid tribute to all committee members and their families: - Phil and Carol Scott & family, Jaqui and Arthur White. Cream Teas and refreshments provided by Cherrel Raybould assisted by Kate, Colette, Christine, Debs, Lianne and Joanne. Miracles performed on the Barbeque thanks to Jeanette Rowe, Trevor Wellington, Megan, Mark Pratt and Steve and Margaret Stawski. John Parnell, Kirsty and Andy Jones where praised for field and site maintenance. All of their assistants and all of the trusts friends received special mention for their fund raising efforts and contributions, particularly ‘Single Moo’ and St Kew Community Hall. The Chairman also thanked the many local business and private sponsors for their magnificent contributions thanking St Kew Products, St Kew Services, Autotec, The Red Lion of St Kew Highway and Sproull Solicitors especially, as well as all marshals and stewards, David and Betty Balmford and Barry Richardson on the gates who allowed the day’s events to proceed without any problems. Bob thanked the members of local Rock Group ‘The DEFS’ for the loan of the PA Sound system, Kate Richardson of G &PJ Nute Veterinary Wadebridge for the many Dog Show prizes and Mr Bill Dawe for his fund raising efforts on the Trusts behalf.

Treasurer David Edwards said that the success of the day with proceeds again in excess of £2600 meant that the Playing Field Trust could once again look to future plans to further improve facilities on the playing field with optimism. He stated that the continued support of local sports clubs was vital in continuing to inspire local young people, and our new Tennis Court and car park area indicated the determination of all to the continuing future of the St Kew Parish Playing Field.

Trust secretary, John Raybould added his thanks to all concerned in delivering a magnificent day, he went on to say that he was now actively involved with several organisations to obtain funding for further improvements to the Playing Field facilities to reflect the wishes of the St Kew Residents

The Continuing success of the St Kew Parish Playing Field is of vital importance to our community and thanks once again to the support of many hundreds of people this year we can look forward to a bright future.
