A fantastic St. Kew 6th FunDay Saturday August 2nd 2008

The St Kew Playing Field Trust 6th Annual FunDay held on Saturday 2nd August has proved to be great success

Despite problems with the weather earlier in the week the proceedings went ahead in good if overcast weather, later on in sunshine.

Trust Chairman and Master of Ceremonies Mr Bob Knight introduced our star guest, entertainer Johnny Cowling, who, in his own inimitable style, opened proceedings for the day. Several hundreds of visitors enjoyed the many sideshows, entertainments, Car Boot sale and facilities on offer. The second Family Fun Dog Shows proved to be a great crowd pleaser and with 16 classes and hundreds of entries was the great attraction of the day. Judge Jerri Omlo of the Canine Learning Centre, Stenalees assisted by her stewards Katie, Jack and Stewart maintained a well run and very entertaining attraction, many prizes and rosettes where handed out and every dog had its day and appropriate rewards.

Chairman Bob Knight paid tribute to all committee members, their families and all of the trusts friends and sponsors for their magnificent efforts as marshals and stewards which allowed the days events to proceed without any problems. Bob particularly thanked the St Kew WI and their volunteer helpers for their contribution to providing refreshments and cream teas during the day, the members of local Rock Group ‘The DEFS’ for the loan of the PA Sound system, Kate Richardson of G &PJ Nute Veterinary Wadebridge for the many Dog Show prizes and District Councillor Bill Dawe for his fund raising efforts on the Trusts behalf. Bob said that the success of the day meant that the Playing Field Trust could look to future plans to further improve facilities on the playing field with optimism. He stated that the continued support of Wadebridge Camels Rugby Club junior teams inspired local young people to take an active interest in the future of the St Kew Playing Field and was an integral part of our aspirations to improve and add to the existing facilities available.

Trust secretary, John Raybould added his thanks to all concerned in delivering a magnificent day, he went on to say that he was now actively involved with several organisations to obtain funding for Teenage Play Equipment and had been successful in obtaining funding for other projects including Changing Room facilities and hospitality marquee (which will be available for hire to other organisations)

The Continuing success of the St Kew Parish Playing Field is of vital importance to our community and thanks one again to the support of many hundreds of people this year we can look forward to a bright future.

Keep It Up we always need your help
