FunDay No 7
See Dog Show Class Information Sheet here............DOGSHOW No 3 A fantastic St. Kew 7th FunDay Saturday August 1st 2009 The St Kew Playing Field Trust 7th Annual FunDay held on Saturday 1st August has proved to be great success Despite problems with the weather all July, August 1st was our lucky day the proceedings went ahead in good if overcast weather, later on in sunshine. Trust Chairman and Master of Ceremonies Mr Bob Knight introduced our star guest, Mr Ian McNeice, currently starring as Bert Large in TVs Doc Martin, who, in his own inimitable style, opened proceedings for the day and assisted throughout with enthusiasm. Several hundreds of visitors enjoyed the many sideshows, entertainments, Car Boot sale and facilities on offer. The 3rd Family Fun Dog Shows proved to be a great crowd pleaser and with 20 classes and hundreds of entries was the great attraction of the day. Judge Jerri Omlo of the Canine Learning Centre Stenalees, assisted by her stewards Katie, Jack and Mike maintained a well run and very entertaining attraction, many prizes and rosettes where handed out and every dog had its day and appropriate rewards. Dog of the day, winning Best in Show was ‘RITA’ a Rough Haired Lurcher owned by Mandy Rutherford of St Kew Highway with Vince owned by Julia Woodard as runner up. It was unfortunate that due to a mix up in timings and concerns about the weather the Dog Show started earlier than advertised and consequently several exhibitors missed early classes and could not show their dogs, Secretary John Raybould apologises to all people and dogs that missed out, some after travelling many miles to attend. He assures everyone that next year this will not occur and everything will run as advertised, so please come again next year on Saturday 7th August. Chairman Bob Knight paid tribute to all committee members and their families especially Phil and Carol Scott, Jaqui and Arthur White, Steve and Margaret Stawski and Cherrel Raybould. With Jeanette Rowe, Trevor Wellington and Jean Plater on the BBQ. Kirsty and Andy Jones, all of their assistants and all of the trusts friends and sponsors for their magnificent efforts as marshals and stewards which allowed the days events to proceed without any problems. Bob particularly thanked the St Kew WI and their volunteer helpers for their contribution to providing refreshments and cream teas during the day, the members of local Rock Group ‘The DEFS’ for the loan of the PA Sound system, Kate Richardson of G &PJ Nute Veterinary Wadebridge for the many Dog Show prizes and Mr Bill Dawe for his fund raising efforts on the Trusts behalf .Treasurer Bob Plater said that the success of the day meant that the Playing Field Trust could look to future plans to further improve facilities on the playing field with optimism. He stated that the continued support of Wadebridge Camels Rugby Club junior teams inspired local young people, particularly the SKY youth club Chaired by Kirsty Jones, to take an active interest in the future of the St Kew Playing Field and was an integral part of our aspirations to improve and add to the existing facilities available. Trust secretary, John Raybould added his thanks to all concerned in delivering a magnificent day, he went on to say that he was now actively involved with several organisations to obtain funding for further improvements to the Playing Field facilities to reflect the wishes of the St Kew Residents as identified in the recently published Parish Plan. The Continuing success of the St Kew Parish Playing Field is of vital importance to our community and thanks once again to the support of many hundreds of people this year we can look forward to a bright future.
